Friday, December 3 Bell Ringer: With a partner or small group list as many things as you can about a topic sentence. We then did a wrap around - everyone shared what they knew.
Lesson: Added Topic Sentence Notes to Google Docs Folder Open up document below.
Save it to your H-Drive. Then upload it to Google Docs. Create a Writer's Notebook Folder - you may even want to create a sub folder called Paragraphs. Move the topic sentence document into this folder. Notes:
Once it is in the folder - click on All Items. Click on the square in front of topic sentence document, then select more options, and finally select hide. The item will still be in your paragraph/Writer's Notebook - just not in your all items.
If you want to add info to this document, you will need to open it and click on edit.
REVIEW THESE NOTES BEFORE TUESDAY!!!!
Prep for Assessment:
In class we reviewed my original connection and the revisions. I have attached that here.
Read and have a passage selected to use - a passage that sparked a connection to a character.
Thursday, December 2 Bell Ringer: When Bruno came to America from Italy, he as shocked – shocked! – to discover the weird toppings people put on pizza. Salsa, for goodness’ sake, and cheddar cheese. Some people even put cashews or corn on their pizza. And the sauces – oh the sauces! – mango and enchilada as a pizza sauce does not seem right. But the worst was pineapple as a topping. Mamma mia! What is the paragraph about and how do you know?
Notes: We will upload in class tomorrow, but we reviewed notes on topic sentence. Class Practice: What is a topic sentence that would work for these supporting details?
The lake is icy cold. The shoreline is rocky. A strange film floats on the surface. Snapping turtles have been seen patrolling the murky water.
The answer was given in class. I will post here tomorrow.
Connection to Independent Reading (see below): We stated this in some classes - we will finish in all on Friday.
Bell Ringer: What do you remember about "The Spinning Contest" - share with a partner or group.
Myth: Read aloud "Arachne"
As I read think about similarities and differences between the myths. In addition, think about connections you can make to the story. Use the questions on the independent reading sheet to help you. (in yesterday's plans). Write down any questions that apply (which ones helped lead you to a connection or write down an actual connection).
Independent Reading:
Review the model response form - note my comments. (see attachment) These comments are a model of what you should be thinking after looking at this.
Closure: What is one area that you think I will be looking for when I read your connection paragraph ( we did not get to this) - Reviewing post-it notes was closure for periods 3 and 5 - need to do this for 1 and 2.
HOMEWORK: Capitalization Task (assigned last Tuesday - two parts... DO BOTH!!!)
Bell Ringer: How did your break rate? Thumbs up or Thumbs down? Share with a partner - make sure your support your rating.
Type 2 Writing: Title it Last name first initial CA 8. class period Tbreak Be sure to set it up as a Type 1 Prompt: Do you agree or disagree? Explain why. Write a paragraph to answer this prompt.
